Key Features

  • Stereo dual-delay engine with independent delay times and multiple timing modes
  • Ping-pong, classic ping-pong, tap, swing, feel offset, and odd/even accent controls for rhythmic echo patterns
  • Reverse delay, diffusion, modulation, and pitch shifting for turning repeats into wider textures
  • Input and feedback EQ plus ducking for keeping echoes shaped around the dry signal
  • Pre, post, and feedback-path saturation with color, bias, dynamics, wow, and flutter controls
  • Taps preview display for visualizing repeat movement while editing delay patterns

Description

QDelay by Tilr is a cross-platform dual-delay effect built for fast rhythmic echoes, stereo movement, and deeper sound-design work inside one plugin. It gives each side of the delay independent timing while adding ping-pong, classic ping-pong, tap, reverse, diffusion, pitch shifting, EQ, ducking, saturation, and tape-style wow and flutter.

The plugin is strongest when you want delay repeats to become part of the production rather than sit behind it as a simple send effect. Swing, feel offset, odd/even accents, and tap mode make it useful for dotted synth patterns, vocal throws, guitar ambience, and dub-style feedback movement.

Its tone-shaping section is unusually deep for a quick delay workflow. Input and feedback EQ keep repeats controlled, while diffusion, pitch shifting, modulation, saturation, wow, and flutter can push the same patch from clean tempo echo into smeared, animated texture.

QDelay is distributed through GitHub with separate Windows, macOS, and Linux release ZIPs. The project is open source under GPL-3.0, and the developer positions it as a fully featured option without premium editions, trimmed feature tiers, or online activation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of delay plugin is QDelay?

QDelay is a stereo dual-delay effect with independent delay timing and multiple behavior modes. It is designed for quick musical echoes, but it also includes deeper shaping tools such as diffusion, pitch shifting, saturation, EQ, ducking, and tape-style wow and flutter.

How does QDelay compare to simple delay plugins?

QDelay goes beyond basic synced delay by combining timing controls with tone, modulation, pitch, and feedback-path processing. The result is closer to a creative multi-delay than a plain utility echo, especially when using reverse, diffusion, saturation, or the tap-pattern controls.

Why might macOS block QDelay after installation?

The GitHub builds are unsigned, so macOS may quarantine the AU or VST3 after download. The developer documents xattr quarantine-removal commands in the README for users who need to allow the plugin manually.

Does QDelay include Linux support?

Yes. The current release includes a Linux ZIP with VST3 and LV2 builds, alongside Windows VST3 and macOS AU/VST3 downloads.
