Key Features

  • Four independent delay lines can be arranged through an input matrix for serial, parallel, and more experimental routing patterns.
  • Per-delay settings make it possible to combine contrasting timings and repeat treatments in one effect instance.
  • Stereo processing and switchable left/right swapping support ping-pong movement and wider fields from a mono input.
  • An analogue-emulation panel adds tape-echo-style color to the delay signal.
  • Two sine-wave LFOs can modulate delay time for wow, flutter, chorus, and flanging-style motion.
  • Per-delay LFO amount and phase controls support dense, offset modulation textures.
  • The developer download includes 32-bit and 64-bit VST builds, a FlowStone schematic, and a user guide.

Description

4DS is a Windows stereo delay effect from Quilcom built around four independent delay lines and an input matrix for arranging their signal flow. It can cover familiar repeat echoes, ping-pong width, chorus, and flanging, while the matrix encourages more involved feedback structures than a standard single-delay plug-in.

Each delay line has its own settings, so a single instance can combine different timings and treatments rather than forcing every repeat through the same path. The stereo design can swap left and right signals per delay, which lets a mono source spread into a wider panned field.

An analogue-emulation section is included for tape-echo-style coloration, and two sine-wave LFOs can modulate delay times for wow, flutter, chorus, or flanging movement. LFO amount and phase can be adjusted per delay, making dense modulation textures possible alongside more conventional echoes.

Quilcom supplies 32-bit and 64-bit VST builds plus the FlowStone schematic and a user guide in its v1.00 download. That makes 4DS best approached as a hands-on multi-delay for producers who want to build unusual stereo repeats as well as straightforward echo effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes 4DS different from a standard delay?

4DS has four independent delay lines instead of a single repeat path. Its input matrix lets you decide how the delays feed one another, so it can move from simple echoes to complex connected patterns.

Can 4DS create ping-pong delay from a mono source?

Yes. The plug-in processes stereo throughout, and each delay can swap the left and right signals. Quilcom notes that sending a mono input to one side can create a wide ping-pong panning effect.

Is 4DS only useful for echo effects?

No. The two LFOs can modulate the delay times for chorus, flanging, wow, and flutter-style movement. The analogue-emulation section also lets the repeats take on a more tape-echo-like character.

What is included with the developer download?

The v1.00 archive includes 32-bit and 64-bit VST plug-ins, the FlowStone schematic, and a user guide. The schematic is useful only if you work with FlowStone or want to inspect the design behind the plug-in.
