Key Features

  • Stacks GLITCH, STUTTER, REVERSE, and DISTO modules so one input can be scattered, repeated, inverted, and reshaped at the same time.
  • Continuously captures incoming audio in a 16-second rolling buffer and can layer up to 32 grains for dense granular processing.
  • Provides five per-grain distortion characters: DRIVE, FOLD, SHAPER, REDUX, and CHAOTIC.
  • Pairs FREEZE with a tempo-aware LOOP mode for held clouds, sliced rhythmic repeats, and movable waveform regions.
  • Uses four LFOs with free or synced rates and up to eight routings for evolving parameters or module gates.
  • Shapes the processed signal with a resonant low-pass, band-pass, or high-pass filter and 30 factory presets.

Description

MICRO is a Windows granular glitch effect from Sound Overflow that continuously records incoming audio, then replays short fragments as scattered, stuttered, reversed, or distorted events. Its four simultaneous modules make it a fast way to turn a static drum loop, vocal, synth, or transition into moving rhythmic detail without setting up several separate effects.

The GLITCH, STUTTER, REVERSE, and DISTO modules can be stacked, with controls for grain density, size, pitch, stereo spread, level, and character. DISTO offers five grain-level curves, while the rolling 16-second buffer can play up to 32 grains at once for denser, more unstable treatments.

FREEZE holds a small captured moment for suspended clouds, while LOOP works with one-, two-, four-, or eight-bar regions and can snap the capture to the host timeline. Four LFOs provide free or synced movement, including dotted and triplet values, so a pattern can become more animated over a build-up or breakdown.

MICRO includes a resonant wet-signal filter and 30 factory presets covering subtle, rhythmic, textural, reverse, lo-fi, and chaotic starting points. It is a VST3 and standalone Windows release; completing the developer's email checkout delivers a key for two machines, and the unlicensed plugin runs in demo mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does MICRO do to incoming audio?

MICRO keeps a rolling recording of the input, draws short grains from that buffer, and processes them through its GLITCH, STUTTER, REVERSE, and DISTO modules. The result can range from subtle movement to fragmented, heavily transformed textures.

Can MICRO create tempo-synced glitch patterns?

Yes. Its LOOP mode works with one-, two-, four-, and eight-bar regions, and the four LFOs can run in host-synced divisions including dotted and triplet values. The LFOs can modulate controls or turn module gates on and off rhythmically.

What is the difference between FREEZE and LOOP?

FREEZE holds a short captured window so the effect can make a suspended granular cloud. LOOP repeats a longer recent region and can align it to the host timeline, making it better suited to repeat-based rhythmic manipulation.

How is MICRO obtained and authorized?

Sound Overflow routes the full release through an email checkout that sends a key. The developer says that key covers two machines; without it, MICRO remains usable in demo mode.
