Description

Burque is a bass synthesizer from Shuttleplug that combines phase distortion, subtractive synthesis and waveshaping. Its oscillator, envelope and distortion controls offer a compact starting point for designing electronic low-end sounds.

The main oscillator is joined by two sine-wave sub oscillators, with independent levels and detune controls. You can balance the layers to change the weight and character of a bass patch, then use the dirt control to add waveshaping.

Separate amplitude and filter ADSR envelopes let you shape the volume and filter movement of a note. Resonance adds another way to alter the filter response, while the overall volume control sets the instrument's output.

Mono mode supports single-note bass lines, and the retrigger switch determines whether envelopes restart on each note when playing legato in that mode. Plugins4Free notes that retrigger does not work when mono mode is off.

The developer lists Burque as a VST and says version 1.2 fixes a waveshaper leakage issue. Plugins4Free lists the instrument for 32-bit Windows, so check whether your host supports 32-bit VST plug-ins before planning to use it in a session.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of sounds is Burque designed to make?

Shuttleplug describes Burque as a synth for bass sounds. It combines phase distortion, subtractive synthesis and waveshaping.

Does Burque support monophonic playing?

Yes. Its mono mode limits the instrument to one note at a time, and a retrigger switch controls envelope behavior for legato playing.

Can I use Burque in a 64-bit DAW?

Plugins4Free lists Burque as a 32-bit Windows VST. Check whether your DAW supports 32-bit plug-ins or requires a compatible bridge; native 64-bit support is not listed.

What changed in version 1.2?

The developer says version 1.2 fixes a waveshaper leakage issue. Plugins4Free lists an older version, so refer to the developer page for its download.
